This week we are wrapping up our European Explorer unit. It is a HUGE challenge to get these students to remember who did what, where and why! I even have a hard time keeping up with all of the different explorers. Therefore, we did a super fun project that brought our four explorers to life.

Make explorers come to life with this FUN project!

Students chose a card that assigned them to an explorer group and gave each student a special job:

Then it was time to get to work….

Our FINAL PRODUCTS:

Our project made the Explorers came to life!
Jacques Cartier
 Christopher Newport
 Juan Ponce de Leon
Christopher Columbus
 "Paperwork"

Each group traced their explorer's route and filled out the information on the scroll. I'm sorry to say that I do not have a copy of the map (I made a copy from another teacher). However, here is a blank copy of the scroll:

The best part of the project were the presentations! I video taped each group presenting and then posted the video to our Shutterfly class website. This will be such an excellent tool for them to view and study from at home. My students always love seeing themselves "star" in a movie. Here is the "trailer" I used during my Daily 5 mini lesson on "persuasiveness" and later in the day I showed them the main video.
